Requirements​

What is required to start the process of becoming a firefighter? Probably less than you think!!

A good portion of the training is done in-house and the district pays for any additional training you need to learn the skills needed to be a firefighter. What we need you to have is your interest, a willingness to learn and the commitment to become a dedicated first responder to you local community.

So.. What is required?​​

Basic Requirements

  • Over 18 years old (over 16 years old for Junior Members)
  • There is no maximum age to join, but you must be physically fit enough to meet the requirements and pass a mandatory Physical Agility Course for Firefighter 1.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license, or the ability to get to the firehouse to respond to calls and attend drills/meetings.
  • A desire to learn.

Application Requirements

  • Attend a department training and/or a meeting.
  • Complete a membership application.
    Pass a physical examination with the department’s provider. (FREE)
  • Junior member applicants have additional submission requirements.
  • With acceptance, probationary membership starts at the next meeting.

Probationary Member Requirements:

  • Start responding to emergency calls immediately.
  • Attend department drills and meetings.
    • Weekly Drills (Mondays)
    • Quarterly Weekend Drills (Sundays)
    • Business Meetings (First Friday of the month)
  • Maintain good attendance. A minimum of 60%, but more is better (you have a lot to learn).
  • Take and pass basic first responder courses: Bloodborne Pathogens, CPR/First Aid, ICS 100 and ICS 700 (FREE)
  • Complete Firefighter 1 and HAZMAT courses within the first year. (FREE)
