So.. How do I get started?

Meet & Apply

  • Complete a physical with the department’s designated medical provider, at NO COST TO YOU.
  • Then submit your paperwork for approval.

  • You’ll be issued Personal Protective Equipment (turnout gear) and other basic equipment.
  • As a Probationary member you’re expected to attend as many meetings, drills, and emergency calls as possible, just like other members.

Training

  • On-the-job training begins immediately – pay attention, learn from the senior firefighters and assist wherever you can – you’ll provide plenty of meaningful help right from the start, but you won’t be doing anything that requires formal training just yet.
  • Complete your formal training, all of which is provided FREE OF CHARGE.
    • Become CPR/First Aid certified.
    • Take a few online courses (2-3 hours each).
  • Pass Firefighter 1 and Hazardous Materials training at the fire academy.
    • Offered at different times of the year and can be taken as a short and intensive 5 days a week program or 2 day a week program over a longer period of time.

Membership:

  • Upon successful completion of all training you become a full member of the department.
    • Junior firefighters become full members at the age of 18, assuming all training is complete.
  • You’ll be fitted for your brand new personal turnout gear and department uniforms, all of which are provided at NO COST TO YOU.
  • You’re now a fully equipped, fully trained, and fully qualified firefighter – You can now use your new super powers to make a difference in the lives of others!
