Requirements
What is required to start the process of becoming a firefighter? Probably less than you think!!
A good portion of the training is done in-house and the district pays for any additional training you need to learn the skills needed to be a firefighter. What we need you to have is your interest, a willingness to learn and the commitment to become a dedicated first responder to you local community.
So.. What is required?
Basic Requirements
- Over 18 years old (over 16 years old for Junior Members)
- There is no maximum age to join, but you must be physically fit enough to meet the requirements and pass a mandatory Physical Agility Course for Firefighter 1.
- You must have a valid driver’s license, or the ability to get to the firehouse to respond to calls and attend drills/meetings.
- A desire to learn.
Application Requirements
- Attend a department training and/or a meeting.
- Complete a membership application.
Pass a physical examination with the department’s provider. (FREE) - Junior member applicants have additional submission requirements.
- With acceptance, probationary membership starts at the next meeting.
Probationary Member Requirements:
- Start responding to emergency calls immediately.
- Attend department drills and meetings.
- Weekly Drills (Mondays)
- Quarterly Weekend Drills (Sundays)
- Business Meetings (First Friday of the month)
- Maintain good attendance. A minimum of 60%, but more is better (you have a lot to learn).
- Take and pass basic first responder courses: Bloodborne Pathogens, CPR/First Aid, ICS 100 and ICS 700 (FREE)
- Complete Firefighter 1 and HAZMAT courses within the first year. (FREE)
